Outline story of Jesus' Death. Arranged in order from the Four Gospels.
9:00AM They arrived at Golgotha (place where he died). As they are about
to drive the nails in his hands and feet, they offered Him wine mixed
with gall, to stupefy Him, and deaden the sense or pain, but he refused
it.
Here's
what He said when they nailed Him to that tree to die, "Father, Forgive
them, they know not what they do." It is hard for us to control our anger
for His killers, even as we read about it. But Jesus was absolutely without
resentment. His self-control was amazing.
His
garments are bartered among the soldiers. The superscription "King of
the Jews" , is placed above his head, in three languages, Hebrew, Latin
and Greek, so all might read and understand what crime He was accused
of.
He
was mocked, scoffed at, vailed on, jeered by the chief priest, elders,
scribes and soldiers. What a hard-hearted, inhuman, brutal, contemptible
crowd it was. Jesus grants eternal life to a penitent-robber, where the
robber cried out to Jesus. Jesus said "Today, thou shalt be with me in
Paradise, Oh, the mercy and grace of God." Luke 23:32-43
Jesus
provided a home for His mother when He said to his mother, "Woman behold
thy son," and to John, "Behold thy mother." What a glorious death He died,
prayed for his killers, promised Paradise to a thief and provided a home
for his dear mother.
Darkness
came at noon until 3. Strange things happened. The veil in the temple
split from top to bottom, meaning that now we have access to God, we do
not need an earthly priest, for now we have a high priest who stands at
the right hand of the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ. It seems that
when this darkness came, could it be possible that God hid his face from
his own son, and left Him a short time so Jesus could, by His death, pay
our Sin debt? Maybe so.
He
suffered in those last three hours we will never know in this world. His
last four sayings came as He was dying on the tree. 1st, along in the
pains of Hell, to keep us from going there he cried out, "My God, my God,
why has thou forsaken me?"
In
excruciating thirst and burning fever, He cried out, "I thirst." He then
took the drink they offered Him, His suffering was over.
Then
came a cry of triumphant relief and joy. He cried, "It is Finished." Praise
God The long reign of human Sin and death is broken.
His
last words, "Father, into thy hands I command my spirit."
A
great earthquake came, tombs opened. Multitudes were grief stricken. Joseph
and Nicodemus ask for His body, then night settles in on the blackest,
foulest crime in the history of the world.
Friends,
you and I should have died on that cross, but Jesus took our place. Think
on these things?
(Luke
23: 50 - 56) Tells us a man named Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate
and asked for Jesus' body and buried it in his own new tomb. - Just as
the Prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 53:9, "And He (Jesus) made His
grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death. Because He had
done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth"
